  1. Mafeking house was leased around 1901 by James Barnet Menzies who remained there until about 1914 when he moved to Geelong. His son Frederick John Menzies helped run it and also ran the General store after he married May Ethel Foyster whose family owned the store.
    Mafeking had several name changes including Connewarre House and Cathkin.
    The original site was in the vicinity of The Parade and Field Street corners.
