I initially posted this on my Just Love History blog as the impact is a much greater area than Geelong and District.
Mark Beasley has confirmed that they will shut down at 5.00 pm on Wednesday 23rd September 2015.
Also take not of the message about the new library catalogue on the same blog!
If you haven’t seen them before, at this stage these are the new opening hours for the Geelong Heritage Centre when it opens in the new building:
- Monday closed
- Tuesday 9am-8pm
- Wednesday to Friday 9am-5pm
- Saturday 10am-1pm
Please spread this message far and wide!
Paula
Oh no! I’m visiting Victoria from mid October to early Nov and was hoping to use the facilities! Is there anywhere else where I can look at the Geelong Advertiser from 1944 to 1950? Thanks
Susie Zada
Hi Paula – what rotten timing! They are on microfilm at the State Library of Victoria – that’s probably your best option. If there are other things you’re chasing you can try a Research Request before they close. http://www.geelongaustralia.com.au/heritage/default.aspx or try the Geelong Family History Group who have other resources they still have access to while the Heritage Centre are closed http://home.vicnet.net.au/~gfamhist/research.htm And if there are other areas in the region check out the local family history or local history societies http://zades.com.au/gandd/index.php/geelong/research/gdresc And don’t forget our Geelong & District Mailing List – lots of knowledgeable people also with resources http://zades.com.au/gandd/index.php/geelong/gdmail
Even if it messes up your plans I’m glad we were at least able to warn you in advance. All the best.
